Yield Worries, India Dominates Lentils

PANAMA - May 28/21 - SNS -- International lentil markets maintained their firm tone through the past week because of weather related bullishness in most net exporting regions.

Though the situation in western Canada improved because of recent rains, crops in key areas in the United States, Australia, parts of eastern Europe and Turkey remain under stress.

These concerns are combined with rising expectations India will reduce or eliminate import duties on lentils at some point in June to try to combat food price inflation and regional shortages caused by internal logistical problems and the belief production is much lower than estimated by the government.
