Moderate Surprise Over Chickpea Intentions

PANAMA - May 1/21 - SNS -- Canadian chickpea markets were somewhat surprised by this year's seeding intentions report.

Statistics Canada said farmers intend to plant 212,200 acres of chickpeas, down from 297,800 last year and well below the recent five year average of 308,120 acres.

A return to average yields would result in a 146,000 metric tons (MT) crop, down from 214,400 last year but above the recent five year average of roughly 207,300 MT.
