Large Kabuli Demand Seen Improving

PANAMA - Mar 5/21 - SNS -- Chickpea markets finished the week's trading mostly unchanged in seasonally light trading interest, with markets waiting to get a better sense of production levels in India.

Demand for large caliber product is expected to be good during the coming months, but medium and small caliber kabuli type chickpeas may continue to struggle to attract significant buyer interest in better paying markets.

Even so, growers in Canada and the United States are not seeing large discounts from 9mm chickpeas for their 8mm and 7mm, reflecting solid domestic demand for good quality product. Canadian markets had been helped by recent food aid tender activity, but speculation additional tenders would quickly follow has yet to be realized.
