Australia -- Queensland Weather Update
MELBOURNE - Oct 5/20 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high near New Zealand extends a weak ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A trough will remain near stationary over the southwest of the state today, moving eastwards and gradually weakening during the remainder of the week. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayA slight to medium chance of showers about the east coast. A medium to high chance of showers and rain areas in the far southwest. Mostly sunny elsewhere with the chance of morning fog patches in eastern districts. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, tending fresh and gusty at times over the interior and far north. Winds turning southerly behind a trough in the far southwest. Temperatures near average.Fire Danger - Very High over the Peninsula district.Wednesday 7 OctoberThe ridge along the east coast of Queensland will continue to gradually weaken, with onshore winds easing and showers becoming more isolated or clearing. The trough and cloud band over the southwest of the state will begin to move slightly further east as an upper trough slides to the southeast. A slight to medium chance of showers about the east coast. A medium to high chance of showers, rain areas, and a few thunderstorms in the southwest. Mostly sunny elsewhere, with the chance of morning fog in the southeast. Temperatures near or above average, tending well below average in the southwest.Thursday 8 OctoberThe weak ridge will persist along much of the east coast, although it will begin to move off the southern coast with winds tending northerly. The trough system will continue to move slowly east across the south of the state while weakening. A slight chance of showers about the east coast. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the southern interior. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Maximum and minimum temperatures near or below average, tending near or above average in the southern interior, and below average in the far southwest.Friday 9 OctoberA high near New Zealand will maintain a weak ridge along the Queensland east coast. The trough system will move into the southeast and stall. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms about the southeast of the state. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Maximum and minimum temperatures near or above average, tending well below average in the southwest.Saturday until MondayA weak ridge will remain in place along much of the Queensland east coast as a new high moves across southeast Australia. The trough system will linger about the southeast of the state, while a series of upper level troughs moving over this feature will provide some modest instability. A slight to medium chance of showers about the east coast. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms over southeastern districts, mainly inland from the coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere.
