Australia -- Queensland Weather Update
MELBOURNE - Oct 1/20 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge over the east coast. A trough extends from the northwest to the southern interior, moving slowly east across the southeast of the state today before weakening on Friday. The ridge will then strengthen northward along the east coast from Friday, remaining steady over the weekend, as a new trough slowly moves across central Australia. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayA slight to medium chance of showers and the chance of a thunderstorm in the southeast, possibly severe about inland parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett. Mostly clear elsewhere. Light to moderate east to northeasterly winds about eastern districts, tending light to moderate southeast to southwesterly about western and southern interior regions.Friday 2 OctoberThe high will remain near northern New Zealand, maintaining a ridge along the east coast. The trough is expected to weaken considerably and dissipate during the day, broadening the east coast ridge across the state. A slight to medium chance of showers about the North Tropical Coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Winds light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, though fresh at times near the northeast tropical coast. Maximum and minimum temperatures near or above average in the west tending near average along the east coasts.Fire Danger - Very High for Peninsula and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders.Saturday 3 OctoberThe high will remain near northern New Zealand, while strengthening the ridge over the state. A slight chance of showers about the east coast, increasing to a medium to high chance about the North Tropical Coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Maximum and minimum temperatures near or above average, tending well above average in the southwest.Sunday 4 OctoberThe high will remain near northern New Zealand, weakening the ridge slightly over the state and along the east coast. A slight to medium chance of showers about the east coast, increasing to a medium to high chance about the North Tropical Coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Maximum and minimum temperatures near average about eastern and central regions, while trending warmer about the far southwest and southern interior.Monday 5 OctoberThe slow moving high near northern New Zealand, is expected to maintain a firm ridge along the east coast. A trough over Central Australia, is likely to slowly approach the far southwest later in the day and over night, with associated high level cloud tending to build across far western regions over this period. A slight to medium chance of showers about the east coast, increasing to a medium to high chance about the North Tropical Coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Maximum and minimum temperatures near of average about eastern and central regions, while trending warmer about the far southwest.Tuesday until ThursdayThe high near northern New Zealand will weaken to be replaced by a new high in the Tasman Sea by mid week. The associated ridge will persist about the east coast over this period, while weakening slightly. A trough approaching the from Central Australia, will linger near the southwest of the state on Tuesday before progressing slowly eastwards during Wednesday and Thursday. A slight to medium chance of showers about the east coast, increasing to a medium to high chance about the North Tropical Coast. A slight chance of a shower or patchy light rain about the far southwest on Tuesday and Wednesday. Slight chance of showers extending into the southern interior on Thursday. The chance of a thunderstorm near the trough in the south. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Maximum and minimum temperatures near of slightly above especially in the south.
