Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 30/20 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge across the state. The ridge will strengthen along the east coast this week as the high drifts east across the Tasman Sea. A trough extends across the southwest of the state, moving slowly east across the south of the state before weakening on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayA slight to medium chance of showers and the chance of a thunderstorm in the southern interior, increasing to a medium to high chance, with patchy morning rain, in the southern Maranoa and Warrego District. A slight chance of showers about the North Tropical Coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Light to moderate east to northeasterly, tending northwesterly fresh and gusty through central districts. Winds in the far southwest tending light to moderate southeast to southwesterly behind a trough through the region. Maximum and minimum temperatures near or above average, tending well above average in western districts.Fire Danger -  Very High in the Peninsula district.Thursday 1 OctoberThe high will linger near New Zealand, maintaining a ridge along the east coast. The trough is expected to move slowly across the southern interior into the southeast. A second weak high will sit over South Australia with a ridge pushing east behind the trough. A slight to medium chance of showers and the chance of a thunderstorm in the southeast. A slight chance of showers about the North Tropical Coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Maximum and minimum temperatures near or above average.Friday 2 OctoberThe high will remain near northern New Zealand, maintaining a ridge along the east coast. The trough is expected to weaken considerably and dissipate during the day, broadening the east coast ridge across the state. A slight to medium chance of showers about the North Tropical Coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Maximum and minimum temperatures near or above average.Saturday 3 OctoberThe high will remain near northern New Zealand, maintaining a ridge over the state. A slight to medium chance of showers about the east coast, increasing to a medium to high chance about the North Tropical Coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Maximum and minimum temperatures near or above average.Sunday until TuesdayThe high will remain near northern New Zealand, maintaining a ridge along the east coast. A weak trough will linger about the southwest from Monday. A slight to medium chance of showers about the east coast, increasing to a medium to high chance about the North Tropical Coast.
