India Reduces Lentil Duty

NEW DELHI - Sep 18/20 - SNS -- The Indian government reduced the basic import duty on lentils from 30% to 10% until October 31 and for U.S. origin lentils from 50% to 30%.

The change takes effect as of September 17, with the result it is possible some cargoes which did not meet the August 31 deadline should now be eligible to enter the country at the reduced level.

In announcing the revision, India's Ministry of Finance said it is satisfied the reduction "is necessary in the public interest".
