Mixed, But Firm Week In Beans

PANAMA - Jul 3/20 - SNS -- Dry edible bean markets posted a mixed finish on the week, reflecting lax demand, but the undertone on spot markets remains relatively firm because of tight inventories.

The spot index for dry edible beans in the United States, finished the week closed down 0.6 points on the week at 95.4. The global pulse index lost 0.7 points to finish the week at 80.5 as old crop markets start converging with new crop and spot demand eased. The Canadian pulse prices index was also easier on the week, slipping 0.4 points to finish at 78.5.

The basis for the price indices was changed to the average price between 2014 and 2016 to maintain consistency with the FAO food price index. The entire range was adjusted to reflect the new basis.
