Peas "Ho Hum" Over Area Reports

PANAMA - Jul 3/20 - SNS -- Land in field peas in Canada and the United States was close to the initial seeding intentions of farmers, with the result markets were unaffected by last week's reports from the USDA and Statistics Canada.

Overall export movement is ending the marketing year on a relatively strong note. Grower deliveries appear to be slowing because of tight onfarm inventories, but those appear to meeting the immediate needs of exporters and processors, allowing spot and new crop prices to continue to converge.

Canada ended up planting 4.225 million acres of all classes of peas, down from 4.332 million last year and just below the intended 4.28 million acres. Area in the United States came in at 947,000 acres, down 14% from last year and just below the 975,000 acres growers said they planned to seed.
