Mixed Week in Chickpeas

PANAMA - Jun 12/20 - SNS -- International chickpeas markets finished the week unchanged to firmer for kabuli types but weaker for desi chickpeas because of forecasts increases in the size of the Australian harvest.

The latest production estimates from the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) predict chickpea output will leap from 281,000 to 661,000 metric tons (MT).

Australia saw a massive increase in seeded area from 263,000 to 531,000 hectares, while excellent soil moisture conditions could see average yields jump 17% to 1,245 kilograms per hectare.
