India Slashes Lentil Duty

DELHI - Jun 3/20 - SNS -- The Indian government is cutting the import duty for lentils from countries other than the United States from 30% to 10%. The duty on U.S. lentils will remain at 30%.

The reduction applies to goods being cleared through Indian ports until August 31, 2020. The change does not apply to the roughly 10% in taxes levied on duties paid.

In making the change, India's government is signalling its concern about this year's rabi season lentil harvest and the availability of reasonably priced pulses in its domestic market.
