MELBOURNE - Jun 1/20 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high south of New Zealand is moving slowly eastwards while the associated ridge weakens along the north Queensland east coast. An upper trough and an associated surface trough are moving off the southern coast this morning. A new high is building across southern Australia and will strengthen a ridge northward across the state over the following few days. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayFine conditions across most of the state, with areas of fog possible about the central and northeast tropics. A slight to medium chance of showers about the northeast tropics. A slight chance of showers about the Wide Bay and Burnett district mainly during the early morning. Cooler conditions will also spread through much of the state in the southwest to southerly airstream. Winds light to moderate southwest to southeast, though fresh at times about the elevated regions of southeast and far northern peninsula coast.Wednesday 3 JuneA large high develops over South Australia and extends a strong ridge over southern Queensland, leading to fine conditions for the majority of the state. A slight to medium chance of showers few showers mainly about the northeast tropical coast. Cooler conditions will also spread through much of the state in the southwest to southerly airstream, with areas of morning frost through the southern and central interior.Thursday 4 JuneA large high strengthens over southern Australia, extending a strong ridge over southern Queensland. Leading to fine conditions throughout most of the state. A few showers along the east coast due to onshore trade flow. Cooler conditions though most of the state in the southwest to southerly airstream, with morning frosts through the southern interior.Friday 5 JuneA large high drifts eastwards over southern Australia while extending a strong ridge over southern Queensland. This will lead to fine conditions almost throughout the state, a slight to medium chance of showers about the coast increasing to high about the northeast tropics. Cooler conditions will persist through much of the state in the southwest to southerly airstream. Morning frosts likely through the southern interior.Saturday until MondayA large high over southern Australia moves slowly eastwards into the Tasman Sea and weakens of the period. While a surface trough and upper level system, are signalled to progress eastwards across the southern half of the state during the latter part of the weekend. However, a prevailing dry airmass is likely to result in very little in the way of shower activity out this feature. Overall, fine conditions almost throughout the state, a slight to medium chance of showers about the coast, though for parts of the northeast tropics. Cooler conditions will persist through much of the state in the southwest to southerly airstream.
