India's Lentil Harvest Questioned

PANAMA - May 22/20 - SNS -- Lentils maintained their relatively quiet tone through the past week against seasonally light end user demand.

With farmers now seeding this year's crop, markets are hoping for a better idea of actual planted area in Canada in the first seeded area estimate for 2020. Most expect to see area come in higher than suggested by the seeding intentions report for the country.

In Saskatchewan, 78% of the crop was in the ground as of March 18, compared to 93% at the same time last year and the recent five year average of 86% sown. Conditions look excellent for much of the coming week, suggesting seeded area could push past 90% complete.
