11% of U.S. Dry Bean Planted

WASHINGTON - May 19/20 - SNS -- Seeding of dry edible bean crops in the United Stated is now roughly 11% complete, judging from the latest state level crop progress reports.

North Dakota, the most important producing state now reports that 3% of this year's crop is in the ground, compared to 17% at this time last year and the recent average of 21% sown by the middle week of May.

Seeding is most advanced in Montana and the U.S. Pacific northwest. However, the bulk of dry edible bean production in those states is chickpeas. The USDA has separated chickpeas from dry edible beans in its area and production reports, but they are still included in the category at the state level.
