Canada Slashing Chickpea Area

PANAMA - May 9/20 - SNS -- As expected, chickpea area in Canada will drop sharply from last year if farmers stick with their seeding intentions.

Statistics Canada found they intend to seed 254,900 acres of all classes of chickpeas, down from 391,900 last year and the 442,9000 acres sown in 2018.

If yields are at their recent five year average, Canada would harvest 169,000 metric tons (MT) of chickpeas, down from 251,700 last year and the 311,300 MT produced in 2018.
