Moderate Strength In Chickpeas

PANAMA - Apr 17/20 - SNS -- Chickpea markets showed moderate strength during the past week, with farmers seeing improved bids as processors work to cover improved short term demand in domestic markets.

Average bids to farmers in both Canada and the United States trended upward during the week, though demand appears to be quality specific based on the needs of packagers and canners.

Rising prices are not expected to have much impact on seeding decisions because residual stocks of medium and small caliber kabuli type chickpeas remain high relative to prospective demand.
