Beans Maintain Strong Tone

PANAMA - Apr 3/20 - SNS -- Dry edible bean markets maintained their firm tone in spot markets against relatively strong demand for immediate shipment.

The net result was the spot index for dry edible beans in the United States jumped 5.0 points on the week to close at 166.5.

By contrast, the Canadian pulse prices index advanced 2.4 points to close at 138.9, while the global index gained 3.7 points to finish at 147.8.

In its seeding intentions report for 2020, the USDA said farmers planned to seed 1.372 million acres of dry edible beans, up from 1.287 million last year. Including states that have been recently removed from the reports suggest actual area is closer to 1.427 million acres, up from 1.339 million last year.
