Argentina Expects Smaller Bean Harvest

PANAMA - Mar 9/20 - SNS -- Initial estimates of this year's dry edible bean area in Argentina, suggest production could be down from last year fir all classes of beans.

Seeding is now underway. Processors are hopeful this year's area targets will be hit, but weather has become a concern in parts of the growing area. However, it remains too early to see any impact beyond a possible reduction in the final area from initial intentions.

The target for white alubia beans is 150,000 hectares, compared to 130,000 for black beans, 22,000 hectares of cranberry beans, 16,000 of dark red kidney, and 5,000 light red kidney.
