Beans in Holiday Mode

PANAMA - Dec 23/19 - SNS -- International dry edible bean markets were generally quiet during the past week with many market participants now taking time off work for the Christmas and New Year's holidays.

Many processors and exporters adopted a more defensive pricing posture for the holiday season, waiting for the grower meetings in January to get a better sense of the intentions of farmers for the coming year.

This was reflected in inter-dealer markets in the United States, with the result its spot index for dry edible beans jumped 4.3 points on the week to close at 140.7.
