Modest Increase in Lentil Output

PANAMA - Dec 6/19 - SNS -- Lentil production in Canada ended up at 2.167 million metric tons (MT) from 3.78 million acres, compared to 2.092 million MT from 3.768 million acres last year.

However, the amount of lentils carried over from the previous marketing year declined with the result available supplies of lentils in Canada have dropped from 3.01 million to 2.86 million MT.

At the same time, opening season exports of Canadian lentils are up from last year. jumping from almost 454,000 to just under 519,000 MT in the August through October period because of improved demand from India, Bangladesh and Turkey.
