Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 18/19 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak high north of New Zealand extends a weak ridge along east Queensland coast. A weakening surface trough around Fraser Island extends inland through the central interior and into the gulf. The trough will push back inland over the weekend as a stronger high moves east over southern Australia, with southeasterly winds extending along the east coast during next week.
Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers and thunderstorms over the eastern inland, including some severe storms about the southern Central Highlands, mostly easing later in the evening. Clear in the west, the far southeast and in the tropics. Winds light to moderate southerly inland; moderate easterly along the southeast coast; moderate north to northeasterly along the coast north of Hervey Bay and tending more easterly in the tropics.Saturday 19 OctoberScattered showers and thunderstorms over eastern districts south of Yeppoon and east of Roma, most likely around the Sunshine Coast and eastern Wide Bay areas; a few of these storms may be severe. Fine, sunny and warm conditions inland and in the tropics, with Severe fire dangers forecast in the tropical interior. Moderate to fresh northerly winds along the coastal fringe south of Cairns; dry south to southwesterly winds inland; easterly trade winds in the tropics.Fire Danger - Severe for the Gulf Country and Northern Goldfields & Upper Flinders, with locally Extreme fire dangers possible in the latter district. Very High to locally Severe fire dangers elsewhere away from the east coast.Sunday 20 OctoberA weak upper level trough will linger about the Capricornia Coast, with the slight chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm along the coastal fringe between about Bowen and Bundaberg. Fine, sunny and warm conditions elsewhere, with Severe fire danger ratings in parts of the northwest.Monday 21 OctoberFresh southeasterly trade winds will extend throughout as a high pressure system moves east into the Tasman Sea and extends a ridge north along the east coast. This trade flow will start to bring a few showers to exposed parts of the tropical coast, and possibly an isolated thunderstorm or two about the adjacent hills, while also pushing hot air west and largely out of Queensland.Tuesday 22 OctoberThe ridge of high pressure along the east coast will bring showers to exposed parts of the tropical coast. The ridge will also push a surface trough inland, taking modest amounts of moisture inland and possibly generating some isolated high-based showers and thunderstorms in the far west and northwest.Wednesday until FridayThe high pressure system in the Tasman Sea will continue to dominate Queensland's weather, with isolated showers along parts of the coast and largely fine weather inland. Daytime temperatures will gradually rise in the southern inland, with warm air extending to the southeast by Friday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Saturday.Product IDQ10700
