MELBOURNE - Oct 17/19 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak high pressure ridge is located over Victoria as a cold front crosses the Bight. The front will reach western Victoria this afternoon and central districts at night before moving away to the east on Saturday as a high pressure system develops over the Bight. The high is forecast to be located near Adelaide by Sunday night and over western Bass Strait by Monday evening. Forecast for the rest of FridayEarly fog and frost patches in the north. Scattered showers developing in the southwest around the middle of the day, extending across remaining southern districts during the afternoon then becoming isolated at night. Remaining dry and mostly sunny across the north and East Gippsland. Areas of raised dust across the northwest in the afternoon. A mild to warm day with strengthening northwesterly winds ahead of a cooler westerly change developing in the southwest during the afternoon and reaching central districts at night.Fire Danger - Very High in the Mallee, Moderate to High elsewhere.Saturday 19 OctoberScattered showers over southern and mountain areas, becoming isolated in the evening. Isolated thunderstorms and small hail across the south, clearing to the east at night. Snow level lowering to 1000 metres during the morning. Dry and mostly cloudy across the north. A cool to cold day with moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong at times about the coast.Sunday 20 OctoberPartly cloudy with isolated showers over southern and mountain areas. Dry and sunny across the north. A cool day with moderate west to southwesterly winds, fresh at times about the coast.Monday 21 OctoberPartly cloudy across the south with isolated morning showers over west Gippsland. Dry and sunny across the north.
