MELBOURNE - Oct 17/19 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak high north of New Zealand extends a weak ridge along east Queensland coast. A surface trough has pushed off the southeast Queensland coast. The trough will move north along the southeast coast today but still extending inland through the central interior. The trough will push back inland over the weekend as a stronger high moves east over southern Australia. Forecast for the rest of FridayA slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms over the eastern inland, increasing to a high chance about the Wide Bay and southern Capricornia, where one or two storms can be severe. Fine, sunny and warm conditions are expected through the remainder of the state. Winds light to moderate southerly inland; moderate to fresh southeasterly along the southeast coast; moderate north to northeasterly along the coast north of Hervey Bay and tending more easterly in the tropics.Fire Danger - Very High in the southeast interior and inland parts of the tropics.Saturday 19 OctoberAn upper level trough approaching from the west will combine with the surface trough to produce scattered showers and thunderstorms over eastern districts between about Yeppoon and the Sunshine Coast; a few of these storms may be severe. Fine, sunny and warm conditions elsewhere, with Severe fire dangers forecast on the Darling Downs and also inland in the tropics in the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and the Gulf Country districts.Sunday 20 OctoberThe upper level trough will linger about the Capricornia Coast maintaining a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm for eastern districts between about Bowen and the Sunshine Coast. Fine, sunny and warm conditions elsewhere.Monday 21 OctoberFresh southeasterly trade winds will extend throughout as a high pressure system moves east into the Tasman Sea and extends a ridge north along the east coast. This trade flow will start to bring a few showers to exposed parts of the tropical coast, and possibly an isolated thunderstorm or two about the adjacent hills, while also pushing hot air west and largely out of Queensland.Tuesday until ThursdayA series of upper level troughs will move east across the state, but will have little effect across most areas due to dry low-level air. The ridge of high pressure along the east coast will bring showers to exposed parts of the tropical coast. The ridge will also push a surface trough slowly westward, taking modest amounts of moisture inland and possibly generating some isolated high-based showers and thunderstorms in the far west. Temperatures will begin to warm again in the southern inland mid-week.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Friday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board MetEye extended into Queensland --> Twitter Media releases Severe Weather Update videos AskBOM videos Fire weather knowledge centre Marketing Local Infomation Cairns weather Charleville Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa Other Information Queensland Forecast Areas Map South East Queensland â Local Forecast Areas Fire Weather Forecast Areas About Weather Forecast Services Marine Weather Knowledge Centre Severe Weather Knowledge Centre Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Industry Solutions Supplier Entry Point Facebook Twitter Youtube Blog Instagram Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary Students and Teachers This page was created at 03:15 on Friday 18 October 2019 (UTC) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2019, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility
