Peas Maintain Firm Tone

PANAMA - Oct 11/19 - SNS -- Field pea markets maintained their relatively firm tone through the past week, helped by relatively strong pace for opening season export movement.

Canada's official export data for September and bulk clearance data for the month will not be available for a couple of weeks, but initial data suggests China remains the most important export destination, with modest shipments continuing to India.

Markets have been somewhat mystified by India's pea imports because more product is entering the country than allowed under the quantitative quota. Between January and April of this year, India's imports were almost 399,000 metric tons (MT), up from 351,000 during the same four month period in 2018.
