Brazil Expects Smaller Bean Crop

PANAMA - Oct 10/19 - SNS -- In Its first production forecast for the coming dry edible bean production cycle, Brazil's Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (Conab) expects both area and yields to decline slightly from those recorded in 2018-19.

If the forecasts prove accurate, it would represent the third year in a row the dry bean production has declined in the country.

Land in all crops is expected to increase from 60.607 to 61.32 million hectares, with soybean area advancing from 35.874 to 36.571 million hectares as the country responds to increased demand from China and other destinations. This competition for land use is likely one reason dry edible bean area is coming under moderate pressure in some parts of the country.
