Mustard Markets Remain Nervous
PANAMA - Oct 4/19 - SNS -- North American mustard seed markets remained quiet during the past week, with markets watching harvest progress in Canada for signs about whether or not recent frosts have hurt seed quality.
Markets expect to a get a better feeling for this years yields and quality because of a recent improvement in weather conditions in much of western Canada. Forecasters expect day time temperatures to remain relatively high through Monday or Tuesday, before plunging into single digits with heavy overnight freezes by mid week.
When the week got underway, 58% of the crop was in the bin, compared to 76% at this time last year and the recent average of almost 87% complete by the end of September. As the week got underway, 12% of the crop was ready to straight combine and 6% was in swath, with 24% still standing in fields.
