Weather Worries Lentils More Than Data

PANAMA - Aug 30/19 - SNS -- Markets continue to be more worried about the status of developing lentil crops than initial yield estimates from Statistics Canada.

This year's harvest is being delayed wet and cold conditions, leaving some processors and exporters worried about the impact poor harvest weather will have on both yields and quality.

Based on surveys before the harvest got underway, Statistics Canada reckons this year's crop will total 2.38 million metric tons (MT), up from 2.09 million last year. Seeded area estimates were left unchanged and there was no break down of the area sown to red or green lentils.
