China's Threatens Duties on U.S. Pulses

WASHINGTON - Aug 29/19 - SNS -- Unless China and/or the United States walk back from their current threats about increased retaliatory duties, exporters in the United States could see a major increases in import duties on sales to China.

The first round is slated to be imposed on September 1, with some pulses facing a second round of increases on December 15.

With tension between China and Canada increasing, some exporters in the United States hoped to sell to China's noodle and fractionation industries.

If the duties come into effect, the United States would not be able to compete with asking prices for peas from Canada and other net exporting nations.
