North American Harvest Limps Forward

PANAMA - Aug 23/19 - SNS -- Field pea harvests in Canada and the United States are pushing forward at a slower pace than last year and their recent five year averages.

Available data suggests 52% of the U.S. crop was in the bin as week got underway, compared to 70% by this time last year. This suggests around 415,000 metric tons (MT) of new crop peas were available during the week in the U.S. compared to 526,000 MT by the same time last year and the recent average of 598,000.

By contrast, only around 12% of the Canadian crop was in the bin because of poor harvest conditions. At that pace, the week started with around 492,000 MT of new crop peas on hand, compared to 1.66 million at the same tie last year.
