Saskatchewan Harvest Just Underway

REGINA Aug 15 - SNS -- Farmers in Saskatchewan have barely started this year's harvest, according to the first harvest progress report of the season from Saskatchewan Agriculture.

Despite rain delays in some areas, producers now have over 1% (of all crops) swathed or ready to straight-cut, and less than 1% in the bin. The provincial agriculture department said the recent five year average is 4% combined and 5% swathed or ready to straight-cut.

Harvest progress is most advanced in the southeast and southwest regions where 1% of the crop is now combined. Producers in the central regions and north have less than 1% of the crop in bins and expect to be harvesting in the coming weeks.
