Dry Edible Rises Marginally

WASHINGTON - Aug 12/19 - SNS -- This year's dry edible bean harvest in the U.S. is expected to total 24.6 million cwt or 1.115 million metric tons (MT), up marginally from 1.112 million last year, according to the USDA's latest crop production report.

The report only cover the nine main producing states in the U.S. Including estimates for the excluded states suggests the total harvest could reach 1.183 million MT, compared to 1.18 million last year.

Area planted is estimated at 1.33 million acres, up 2% from the previous forecast but down 36% from 2018. Area harvested is forecast at 1.28 million acres, up 2% from the previous forecast but 36% below 2018.

The average United States yield is forecast at 1,919 pounds per acre, an increase of 59 pounds from last season.

It is important to note that the following table includes chickpeas in the 2018 data, but excludes them from this year's numbers.
