Lentils Remain Quiet

PANAMA - Aug 3/19 - SNS -- International lentil markets remained relatively quiet during the past week, with processors and exporters waiting for initial harvest activity in Canada and the United States.

The condition of Canada's crops improved during the last half of July, with the percentage good to excellent jumping from 58% on July 18 to 66% as of July 29. The proportion rated fair or poor dropped from 42% to 34%.

Montana is the most important lentil producing region in the United States, accounting for 60% of the seeded area. The percentage of lentil crops rated in good or excellent condition in that state rose from 57% to 66% during the week ending July 28. As the week got underway, 95% of the lentil crop was in bloom, compared to 88% the previous week. There are no year earlier comparisons.
