Second Highest Mustard Area

WASHINGTON - Jun 28/19 - SNS -- Planted area of mustard seed in the United States is estimated at 110,000 acres, up 7% from 2018 and represents the second highest planted area on record, according to the USDA's seeded area estimates for 2019.

Mustard seed area for harvest is forecast at 104,500 acres, up 7% from the previous year and represents the third highest on record, if realized. Beginning in 2019, estimates for mustard seed were discontinued in Oregon and Washington.

Acreage planted to rapeseed is estimated at 14,800 acres, up 9,100 acres from 2018 and represents the second highest area since records began in 1991. Harvested rapeseed area is forecast at 14,000 acres, and will be the second highest on record, if realized.

Beginning in 2019, estimates for rapeseed were discontinued in Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, and Washington. Estimates began for rapeseed in 2019 for Delaware, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
