Quiet Week In Dry Beans

PANAMA - Mar 22/19 - SNS -- International dry edible bean markets experienced another quiet week, with many end users indicating medium term needs are well covered.

This was reflected in the U.S. spot index for beans, which finished the week unchanged at 115.3 points. By contrast, the Canadian pulse price index lost 1.3 points to finish at 133.8, while the world pulse price index ended 0.8 points lower to close at 142.9.

With most buyers of white and colored beans absent, many of the more conservative exporters are unwilling to chase demand for fear it will simply drive prices lower. One of the few exceptions are fababeans, where the world faces a fundamental shortage of product, helping maintain prices in both grower and export markets at relatively high levels.
