Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 20/19 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A slow moving high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea will extend a strong ridge south of Victoria until at least Friday, while a low pressure trough lingers over the west Tasman Sea. Another low pressure trough will develop over western Victoria during Friday before moving eastwards across the State during Saturday. A strong cold front moving across the Bight associated with a deepening low in the Southern Ocean is forecast to reach far western Victoria late on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers in the east, mainly in Gippsland, with isolated thunderstorms about the eastern ranges clearing tonight. Possible drizzle patches about the west coast tonight. Generally cloudy in the south, partly cloudy about the ranges and clear over the northern plains. Areas of smoke haze about the eastern ranges and northeast. Light southwest to southeasterly winds, coastal sea breezes easing in the evening.Thursday 21 MarchMorning fog patches in southern and eastern districts. Areas of smoke haze in parts of the eastern ranges. Morning drizzle patches in the southwest. Isolated showers in the east, mainly Gippsland, extending into the eastern ranges in the afternoon with possible thunderstorms. Mild to warm and generally cloudy in the south, warm to hot and partly cloudy in the north. Light south to southeasterly winds freshening near the coast in the afternoon.Fire Danger -  Low-Moderate, tending High in the north.Friday 22 MarchScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over central and eastern districts, mainly in the afternoon and about the ranges. Isolated showers or drizzle also about the west coast. Dry and partly cloudy elsewhere. Warm to hot, milder along the coast. Light winds tending northerly inland. Light to moderate east to southeasterlies about the coast.Saturday 23 MarchScattered showers in the southwest extending to central and eastern areas in the afternoon, with isolated thunderstorms developing. Remaining dry in the northwest. A warm to hot day, moderate to fresh northerly winds shifting milder westerly in the far west during the morning then extending eastward during the day.Sunday 24 MarchIsolated showers throughout, tending scattered in the far west later. Warm and partly cloudy with light winds at first, tending northerly from the west and freshening.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Thursday.Product IDV10310
