Peas Unmoved By Record Indian Forecast

PANAMA - Mar 1/19 - SNS -- Field pea markets were largely unchanged on the week as relatively strong bulk export movement continues to support both grower and inter-dealer markets.

India's second advance estimates for its 2018-19 production cycle predicted the country will harvest a record 24.02 million metric tons (MT) of all classes of pulses, up from 23.945 million last year and the recent five year average of 19.96 million.

Though land in all pulses is down from the 2017-18 production yields, India's agriculture department expects desi chickpea yields to reach a record 1,069 kilograms per hectare, while yields for black mapte and mung beans are expected to improve. Average yields for pigeon peas and other pulses are expected to be lower than the previous season.
