Few Changes in Chickpeas

PANAMA - Dec 14/18 - SNS -- International chickpea markets finished the week's trading little changed despite worries about production in Argentina and a smaller than expected Australian harvest.

With values holding at the lower end of their historic prices ranges, land in kabuli chickpeas is expected to fall sharply in 2019, though plantings of desi type chickpeas could increase as farmers in Australia respond to strong domestic prices.

Exporters in that country are seeing relatively good demand for desi chickpeas and other pulses from the Indian subcontinent. There have been reports of contract cancellations and deferrals as some buyers appear to be reorganizing arrivals to better match ongoing needs.
