Big Jump in Mustard Output

PANAMA - Dec 7/18 - SNS -- This year's mustard seed harvest in Canada was pegged at 173,700 metric tons (MT), up 43% from last year because of a solid increase in seeded area and improved average yields.

Statistics Canada pegged production of all classes of mustard at 134,700 MT from 375,500 acres in Saskatchewan, compared to 336,700 MT from 122,100 acres in Alberta and 2,300 Mt from 6,200 acres in other provinces.

Residual stocks from the 2017-18 marketing year are thought to total 56,000 MT for an available supply of 229,700 MT, up from 216,200 MT last season and the recent five year average of almost 222,000 MT.
