Increased Dry Bean Area Expected

PANAMA - Nov 6/18 - SNS -- Dry edible bean seedings in Canada and the United States should increase in the coming year, with potential returns for many classes currently competitive with other crops.

Growers have yet to finalize planting decisions, but with a steep reduction in chickpeas expected in 2019 and potential reductions in soybeans, growers would be expected to look for ways to keep pulses in their rotations.

There is a chance that seeded area for all classes, except chickpeas, could advance from thus year's 1.295 million acres to 1.444 million in the United States 2019, just behind the recent five year average of 1.453 million.
