Birdseeds Hold Firm

PANAMA - Oct 12/18 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredient markets finished the week's trading on a generally firm note, with canaryseed and millet holding steady to firmer as grower selling interest just keeps up with the needs of processors and exporters.

Sunflower markets were helped by the USDA production estimate, which found farmers planted less sunflower than expected, resulting in a steeper than hoped drop in production of both oil and confection sunflower.

Production of all classes of sunflower was pegged at 1.93 billion pounds or 877,600 metric tons (MT), down 10% from the revised 2017 production of 2.16 billion pounds or 977,620 MT.
