Mustard Harvest Remains Stalled

PANAMA - Oct 5/18 - SNS -- Mustard seed markets continued to adjust from old to new crop pricing during the past week, with growers seeing further reductions in bids for brown mustard though yellow and oriental were unchanged.

Updated yield estimates from provincial agriculture departments in Canada suggest the crop could be bigger than initially forecast by Statistics Canada.

On the other hand, the harvest was stalled by cool and wet conditions for much of September. As of October 1, 76% of this year's mustard crop was in bin, compared to the recent five year average of 91% and 98% last year. Of the balance, 16% is ready to straight combine and 2% in swath with 6% still standing.
