Kharif Seeding Complete

PANAMA - Sep 28/18 - SNS -- Seeding of this year's kharif season crops in India is considered complete by the country's agriculture department. Based on findings in the first advance estimates, the final area was pegged at 13.552 million hectares, down from 14.083 million last year.

Looking at area by class, land in arhar or pigeon pea reached 4.541 million hectares, up from the 4.431 million hectares sown last year. Moong bean seedings reached 3.265 million hectares, versus 3.286 million last year; while urdbean or black mapte seedings dropped from 4.495 to 3.861 million. Area in all other pulses is up slightly from 1.871 million at 1.885 million hectares.

The concern for field pea markets is that farmers in India are not being discouraged from growing prices even though cash bids often drop below the minimum support price (MSP) in response to grower selling interest.
