South Africa Bean Crop Yields Improve

PRETORIA - Sep 26/18 - SNS -- Dry edible bean yields in South Africa were higher than initially expected, with the final report for 32018 summer crops boosting production 5.72% over the previous report.

South Africa´s Grain Information Service (SAGIS) pegged output at 69,360 metric tons (MT), up slight from last year and up roughly 5,000 MT from the previous five year average.

Total dry edible bean imports for 2018 and consumption should be up over last year, but exports are trending lower, with the result residual supplies of beans are likely to double. The stocks to use ratio is expected to jump from 9.2% to 18.4%.
