Strong Opening For Lentil Exports

PANAMA - Sep 14/18 - SNS -- Canadian lentil exports are off to a stronger start than last season, helping stabilize prices for both red and green.

Official export data for August will not be available until the first week of the coming month, but preliminary data from the Canadian Grain Commission suggests bulk loadings at terminals and primary elevators set a new record for the month of August at around 73,000 metric tons (MT).

The best opening month for all types of export movement was recorded in August of 2014, when total clearances topped 137,000 MT. That record is not expected to be matched because movement during that month included 54,740 MT of lentils for the Indian subcontinent and other Asian markets.
