Pea Stocks Taken in Stride

PANAMA - Sep 7/18 - SNS -- International field pea markets were somewhat surprised by Canada's ending stocks, expecting demand during the closing weeks of its 2017-18 marketing campaign to reduce them by another 100,000 metric tons (MT).

Even so, at 650,000 MT they were not high enough to result in an increase in available supplies for the current marketing year, assuming Statistics Canada does not revise the crop size upward from its current 3.64 million MT estimate.

At current prices, field peas remain competitive for many market uses, creating optimism about demand prospects through next July.
