Further Weakness in Chickpeas

PANAMA - Aug 31/18 - SNS -- The world's chickpea markets continued to weaken during the past week, with asking prices for large caliber product unable to result the drag from medium and small caliber.

Markets were not helped by Statistics Canada's view that this year's average yields were not hurt by unusual heat during the growing season and the lack of general rains.

Based on a survey before the harvest started, Statistics Canada said farmers thought yields would average 1,315 pounds per acre for a 264,100 MT crop, compared to last year's average of 1,251 pounds per acre for a 118,600 harvest result.
