Lower Than Expected Mustard Yield

PANAMA - Aug 31/18 - SNS -- Canada's mustard seed is expected to total 175,300 metric tons (MT), with 10% improvement in average yields combining with a higher seeded area to lift output 44% above last year, according to Statistics Canada's first crop estimate.

The estimates were based on grower impressions of their field during the last half of July and before this year's harvest got underway.

The August estimate is typically optimistic. During the previous five years, the final production estimate for all classes of mustard seed averaged 2% less than the August forecast, though in 2015 the actual crop was 15% larger than thought.
