No Change in South Africa Bean Estimate

PRETORIA - Aug 28/18 - SNS -- South Africa´s Grain Information Service (SAGIS) left this year's dry edible bean production estimate unchanged in its latest crop report.

SAGIS pegged dry edible yields at 1,230 kilogram per hectare, down from last year's 1,521 average. Production totals 65,610 metric tons (MT), down slightly from the 68,525 grown last year.

This suggests imports will be up marginally from last year, potentially rising from almost 50,6000 MT to around 53,000. However, problems with China's crops may force the country to diversify its sources of supply to take advantage of lower average asking prices from other origins.
