Birdseeds Hold Steady
PANAMA - Aug 24/18 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets were largely unchanged on the week, with processors and their customers waiting for this year's harvest to become general.
Only 1% of Canada's canaryseed crop was in the bin as the week got underway, with 7% ready to straight combine and 1% in swath, waiting to be harvested.
Canaryseed is one of the last crops many farmers harvest because if its ability to withstand poor weather during harvest. This is reflected in the fact during the previous five years less than 1% of the crop was in the bin by the end of the third week of August. On average, the harvest does not reach its mid point until the end of September.
