Chickpea Bids Bounce in Canada
PANAMA - Aug 3/18 - SNS -- International chickpea markets are showing signs of stabilizing, with markets accustomed to the idea production of medium and small caliber beans will be up over last year.
However, markets no longer expect as big an increase as feared because of poor crop conditions in many parts of Europe. This should reduce the level of competition between origins for available demand.
This was reflected in a solid week over week increase in grower bid levels in Canada. Bids for 9mm kabuli type chickpeas jumped 20% on the week and now range up to U.S. $425 per metric ton (MT), while bids for 8mm rose 26% to range up to $340 MT and bids for 7mm advanced 37% to $255 MT.
